Florida - House Bill - HB 543 - Dangerous Dogs HB 543 - seeks to overturn the Florida statute that prohibits Breed Specific Legislation (BSL). Current Florida law does not allow municipalities to enact breed specific legislation. Miami-Dade county enacted BSL, before that law went into effect. HB 543 was filed in the Florida House of Representatives on 12-28-09 by Representative Perry Thurston. HB 543 was referred to 3 committees (Agriculture & Natural Resources Policy Committee, General Government Policy Council, and Military & Local Affairs Policy Committee) on 1-15. It is currently in the Agriculture Committee. An identical bill (SB 1276) has been filed in the Senate. You can read more about this on our page for SB 1276.
