Florida - Senate Bill - SB 1276 - Dangerous Dogs SB 1276 - proposed by Senator Anthony Hill was filed on 1-20-10 in the Senate. It is a companion bill to HB 543, which seeks to overturn Florida's ban on Breed Specific Legislation (BSL). Current Florida law does not allow municipalities to enact breed specific legislation. Miami-Dade county enacted BSL, before that law went into effect. SB 1276 was amended and passed the Community Affairs committee on 3-4, with a 9-2 vote. It still needs to go through the Agriculture, and Transportation and Economic Development Appropriations committees. The amendment prohibits municipalities from passing breed bans, but still will allow breed restrictions. An identical bill (HB 543) has been filed in the House of Representatives. You can read more about this on our page for HB 543.
