20010 Anti-pet bills filed in the Florida House and Senate

HB 543 - "Dangerous Dogs" - seeks to overturn the Florida statute that prohibits Breed Specific Legislation (BSL). An identical bill (SB 1276) has been filed in the Senate.  We have more details on our page for HB 543.

HB 709 - "Reptiles" - Prohibits any person from possessing, importing, selling, trading, or breeding certain specified reptile species, including a reptile designated as a reptile of concern by the FWC.  It is a similar bill to SB 318.  Read more about this proposed bill at HB 709.

SB 572 - "Pythons and Reptiles" - Expresses the legislative intent to revise laws relating to pythons and reptiles.  Replaced with a committee substitute on 2-15, passed on 2-16.  See our page on SB 572 for details.

Pets In Condos is trying to get 50,000 signatures needed to submit a bill next year to allow pets in condos and other common interest ownership communities (condos, HOAs, co-ops and trailer parks).  Read more about what they are proposing:  Association boards must allow unit owners to have pets, within reasonable guidelines.
