On June 5, 2008, the Volusia county council just passed a Mandatory Spay/Neuter (MSN) ordinance for unincorporated Volusia county, this goes into effect September 1, 2008.  The council passed this ordinance, even though a large majority of the public speaking at this meeting, were against the ordinance.  The next step is for the council to try to "persuade" all of the 16 cities within Volusia county to also pass similar MSN ordinances.  We will be working on each of the individual cities to try to help keep this from happening.

ALERT - The Volusia county council is also in the process of revising the pet limits and hobby breeder licensing ordinance for all of Volusia county.  The council said they plan to tie this into their MSN ordinance at some point.  They will be meeting to discuss this on Thursday, August 7 at 4:30 PM.  You can read more about the 8-7 agenda on the Volusia County site.  You can review a pdf of the latest revisions to the proposed ordinance Agenda Item # 41.  To read a pdf of the ordinance, as it was proposed on 2-7-08 agenda.  Revisions that were made to the proposed ordinance as it read on the 6-19-08 agenda.  There are a lot of serious problems with this proposed ordinance, read more about our concerns on our Volusia Pet Limits page.
